Your Day at Pratapgarh Farms

On This Page
Pratapgarh Farms is the best 1 day outing near Delhi for a family. A 35-acre farm with 150+ activities and unlimited food — the Camel Ride, the Bullock Cart Ride, the charkha, the Mud Bath, and the Sara Din counters of Neembu Shikanjee, Chacch and pakoras.
Four visitors have written down what the day is like: a company’s bonding day in 2013, a family picnic in 2014, a school road trip and another family’s day out in 2018. What they noticed is what you will notice.
The Welcome At The Gate
It begins at the gate, with a thali in the host’s hand and a tilak on your forehead.
Sujay Das, arriving for his company’s bonding day in February 2013, was met by “a person holding a traditional thali and putting vermilion on everyone’s forehead”. The same welcome, with a Haryanvi pagdi tied on over the tilak, went to the G20 delegation that spent 4 March 2023 at the farm.
Paranthas, White Butter And Jalebi
Breakfast is unlimited and it runs until noon. Stuffed Paranthas with white farm fresh Makhan, Poori Chole, Aloo ki Sabji, Dahi, Achaar and Chatni come first, with Jalebi and Kadhai doodh alongside, and you can go back as often as you like.
“Steaming hot Puri Sabji, Parathas and farm made Butter along with warm Jalebis that literally melt in your mouth.”
— Sujay Das, Outside the Frame, February 2013
Viharin came for a family picnic the next year and wrote down the same morning: “hot jalebis and kadai milk”, beside the paranthas, the makkhan and the poori bhaji.
Camel, Bullock Cart And Tractor
The Camel Ride, the Bullock Cart Ride and the Tractor Ride run all day, and the Toy Train Ride, the Frog Ride, the Dragon Caterpillar Ride and the Ferris Wheel run beside them.
“Kids were very happy to enjoy these rides in the greenery,” Viharin wrote of that picnic.
Tug Of War, Pithoo And Gulel
The older games sit together on the same grass: Tug of War, Pithoo, the Sack Race, the Lemon Spoon Race and the Matka Race, with Gulel Shooting, Archery, Air Gun Shooting and Darts alongside. Viharin wrote that one short: “Tried our hand at Gulee Danda.”
The Burma Bridge crosses the pond, and the Mud Bath, the Tubewell Bath, the Rain Dance and the Boating are on the farm too.
Grinding Grain, Churning Butter, Spinning Cotton
The part of the day that belongs to the village: Charkha Weaving, Grinding Grains, Making Ghee and Butter from Milk, Handloom Weaving, Pottery and the Puppet Show, with Mehendi and the older games — Kanche Goli, Lattoo, Pithoo — a few steps away. The women who run it come dressed for it.
“Kids were keenly observing thread production with Charkha, manual flour grinder and white butter churner.”
— Viharin, March 2014
For a school group in 2018 this was the morning: “One can taste the flavours of rural life in Pratapgarh Farms.”
Lunch, Off The Chullah
Lunch runs until 15:30 and it comes off the chullah: Sarson Ka Saag and Makee Bajre ki roti with desi Ghee, Rajma, Kadhi, Paneer Shahi, Vegetable Poolao, Jeera Rice, Dahi, Papad, Achaar and a Suji ka Halwa. The vegetables come off the farm and the makhan off its own dairy.
Sujay Das called the Makki ki Roti and the Sarson ka Saag “truly to die for”. Travel to Drive’s high point was the “traditional food cooked on Chullah”.
Between the meals the Sara Din counters stay open — Neembu Shikanjee, Chacch, Kadhai doodh, Ganne — and tea and pakoras come round late in the afternoon. Viharin and her family stopped for “neembu paani (lemon juice) and pakoras”.
