Farm Tourism in Haryana Since 2008

Pratapgarh Farms is a 35-acre farm tourism destination in Village Talao, Jhajjar district, Haryana, near Delhi NCR. Pratapgarh Farms opened in 2008, and one day ticket covers 150+ activities across 15 categories, unlimited vegetarian food from breakfast to evening, and entry from 09:30 to 17:30, all seven days.

Who Runs Pratapgarh Farms?

Pradeep Singh Phogat is the founder of Pratapgarh Farms, and he is a native of Village Talao. He spent 20 years as a management professional, 12 of them as chief executive of an international development organization, and he has travelled widely within and outside the country. For several years he has been nominated to the National Committee on Tourism of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Encouraged by the Farm Tourism Policy of the Government of Haryana, he established Pratapgarh Farms on his ancestral farmland.

What Grows At Pratapgarh Farms?

Pratapgarh Farms is laid out as a botanical garden of 150 species of trees and plants, and the gardens are arranged to be read as well as walked. Panchvati holds the five trees that stand for the five elements, fertility and life. Triveni is the corner where a banyan, a bodhi and a neem grow together. Triphala Kunj keeps the three medicinal trees — amla, harad and baheda. Nakshatra Van plants 27 trees, one for each nakshatra. Rashi Vatika matches 12 trees to the zodiac signs, and Navgrah Vatika sets out nine plants for the nine grahas.

Aushadh Vatika gathers the medicinal plants — aloe vera, ashwagandha, giloy and seven varieties of tulsi. The nursery walk passes through 30 green houses of ficus, palms, cactus and other potted plants.

Which Animals Live On The Farm?

The cattle barns hold goats, sheep, cows, buffaloes and camels, and the poultry farm holds ducks, fowls, chickens and roosters. Pigeons come and go over the roofs, and the weaver bird builds in the trees along the fields.

Ten camels work the rides, among them Sahiba, Saheli, Bipasa, Desert Fox and Flying Fox. The bullocks Heera, Moti, Gora and Badal pull the carts in their royal attire, and the tractors Dara and Balwan take the ride out through the fields. A camel cart, a bullock cart and a tractor ride are all part of the day.

Which Village Games Can You Play?

The village yard keeps the games this part of Haryana grew up with: Gulli-Danda, Pithoo, Lattoo, Kanche Goli, Gulel shooting, dart shooting, archery, tug of war, hopscotch, kabaddi and kushti. A kite is there to fly above the fields.

Table tennis, badminton, volleyball, football, cricket and the trampoline sit on the playing field, and carrom, chess, Saamp-Seedhi and Ludo are there for the shade. A group can add Tambola, musical chairs, or the lemon and spoon, three-legged and sack races.

What Happens At The Craft Yard?

At the craft yard the potter sits with you at the wheel and terracotta bowls and lamps come off it. Local womenfolk turn the charkha, and the handloom takes a shawl. Cooking, pounding grain, grinding atta, making ghee and churning buttermilk are all there to try, and so is balancing a water pail on the head the way the women of Haryana carry theirs. The puppeteers stage their tales across the yard through the afternoon.

The adventure course is laid out on the Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan terrain, named for the farmer and the soldier, the two callings this part of Haryana is known for. The course and the playing fields beside it are part of the day, and every activity comes with its equipment.

What Food Is Served Through The Day?

Unlimited vegetarian food is cooked through the day in the Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab way. Breakfast runs from 09:30 to 12:00 and lunch from 13:30 to 15:30, and both are unlimited, with the counters serving between them.

The chakki grinds the atta fresh from local grain, and the vegetables come off the farm. Makhan, chacch, desi ghee and the selected masalas do the rest. The milk and milk products come from the farm’s own dairy of desi cows and Murrah buffaloes. Bajre ki roti, khichdi, ghee gur chattni, gulgule and churma are cooked at the chullah by the women of the village, and served beside it.

Families come for the day, schools and colleges bring their students, and corporate teams bring theirs. The whole day happens on the same 35 acres and ends at 17:30, so the group is back in the city the same evening.

Where Is Pratapgarh Farms?

Pratapgarh Farms is on Gwalison Road, near the railway station in Jhajjar, Haryana 124103, in Village Talao. Jhajjar is the district next to Delhi on its north-west and next to Gurgaon on its north, and the drive from Delhi takes one to two hours.

The farm is 4 km from Jhajjar town and 15 km from Bhindawas Bird Sanctuary. The fields around the farm are visited by local and migratory birds, and the Google Maps pin opens directions from wherever you set out. The contact page carries the address, the phone numbers and the day ticket rates.

What Recognition Does The Farm Hold?

The Department of Tourism, Government of Haryana, approved and registered Pratapgarh Farms, and the farm has held that approval since 2008. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, named Pratapgarh Farms a Best Tourism Village of India in 2023, and the farm received the Big FM Big Impact Creator Award 2024 in farm tourism. On 4 March 2023, Pratapgarh Farms hosted the delegation of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group. The farm holds 4.8 across 31,033 Google reviews.
